Publishing ethics
The Scientific Journal of Technology for Life, ensures the high quality of the contents in the articles they publish, the strategies implemented for this purpose are detailed:
- Double review of articles (sometimes it can go beyond 4 reviews)
- Frequent review by the Editorial Board prior to publication
- The review and prior approval of the galley test of both the Publisher and the authors
- Plagiarism detection by means of detection systems before publication
The Scientific Journal of Technology for Life adheres to the guidelines set by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), Elsevier's Publishing Ethics Resource Kit (PERK) and the Singapore Declaration on Research Integrity,
Which guide and direct the best practices in order to meet these requirements of academic quality, writing, etc.
The Scientific Journal of Technology for Life, as a management policy, applies ethical standards as duties and responsibilities for editors, authors and reviewers:
- a) Roles and responsibilities of editors
Manage the actions leading to the fulfillment of the journal's objectives.
To ensure a high academic level in the content that is published and to decide, ultimately, on the articles that will be published in Education and Humanism.
Administer and manage the articles received for publication and request peer reviews.
Review new versions of articles and compliance with reviewers' recommendations.
To inform researchers and authors of the phase of the editorial process in which the article is in progress.
Socialize the Editorial Committee about the arbitration process of all materials received, taking care of confidentiality
Present to the Editorial Committee the content of each issue of the journal, based on the articles corrected and approved before publication
To direct and manage technical processing of the materials approved by the Editorial Committee, once they have met the established academic requirements.
Review the style correction and technical quality of the journal, frequently and constantly in each article to be published
Assist in maintaining rigid planning on the periodicity established for the publication of the journal and so that the dissemination and distribution of each issue begins during the first month of the corresponding period.
The members of the Editorial Committee – Editorial Board – External Editorial Committee and others, have the obligation to maintain confidentiality about the texts received and their content until they have been accepted for publication. Only then can its title and authorship be disseminated.
In the event of becoming aware of any allegations of research misconduct related to an article published in your journal, the Editorial Committee will follow the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) to deal with the allegations.
The Editorial Committee will be composed of the editors and the director of the Scientific Journal of Technology for Life.
Fraud and Ethics Violations by Editors
An editor engages in unethical behavior in a publication when:
- There is bias in the selection of articles: by the profile of the authors, the research groups or institutions, etc.
- Articles are not subject to peer review.
- Presents conflicts of interest in the publication of articles.
- Pressure authors to cite articles from the journal itself in order to increase the impact factor.
- He publishes articles of his own authorship in the journal without having an editor to accompany the process.
- Does not maintain confidentiality and makes the article known to other researchers or reveals the identities of the authors or peers in the review process.
- Intentionally, it delays the publication of an article.
- It deliberately hinders processes with self-interest.
b) Roles and responsibilities of authors
Articles submitted for publication must be the result of original and unpublished research. They should include the data obtained and used, as well as an objective discussion of the results. Sufficient information must be provided so that any specialist can replicate the research carried out and confirm or refute the interpretations defended in the work.
Authors should be familiar with ethical standards of publication and refrain from inappropriate scientific conduct. They must present their results clearly and honestly, without falsification or improper manipulation of the data. In addition, they must ensure that the data and results presented in the work are original and have not been copied, invented, distorted or manipulated.
Plagiarism in all its forms, multiple or redundant publication, as well as the invention or manipulation of data, constitute serious misconduct and are considered scientific fraud. Authors should give appropriate credit and acknowledgement, avoiding deliberately misrepresenting a scientist's relationship to the published work.
No significant part of the article must have been previously published, either as an article or chapter, or be under consideration for publication elsewhere. If an author discovers a serious error in his or her work, he or she has the obligation to notify the journal as soon as possible in order to modify his or her article, withdraw it, retract it or publish a correction or errata. If a possible error is detected by a member of the Editorial Committee or the Scientific and Editorial Board, the author is obliged to demonstrate the correctness of his or her work. Authors are required to participate in a peer review process for all submitted materials.
c) Roles and responsibilities of the revisers
The reviewers must make a fair and objective evaluation of the articles, clearly stating the arguments for their evaluation. They should not agree to review articles where there may be a conflict of interest that compromises their objectivity, such as being a stakeholder in the research, having a personal, family, or other relationship with the authors, or being in conflict with them or with the group presenting the work.
They must maintain confidentiality about the information and data of the articles evaluated. The evaluation of manuscripts should be based solely on their intellectual content, regardless of the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnicity, nationality, or political philosophy of the authors.
The reviewers must make a fair and objective review of the articles and clearly state the arguments for their evaluation. They should not accept articles for review in which there may be a conflict of interest that limits their objectivity. For example, for being an interested party in the research presented in the article, maintaining a personal, kinship, or other relationship with the authors of the text or being in a situation of dispute against the author or the person or group that presents it. Maintain confidentiality about the information and data of the articles evaluated. Evaluate manuscripts only for their intellectual content, regardless of the authors' race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnicity, nationality, or political philosophy.
Fraud and Ethics Violations in Revisers
A peer reviewer violates ethics when:
- Plagiarizes information from the articles it reviews.
- Agrees to evaluate an article when there are conflicts of interest.
- It violates confidentiality and anonymity in the review process.
- Intentionally delays review processes in order to seek their own or third parties' benefit.
d) Roles and responsibilities of the Editorial and Scientific Board
The members of the Editorial and Scientific Board must attend the meetings convened (face-to-face or by videoconference) by the editors of the Journal by the director.
The Editorial and Scientific Board has the responsibility of proposing external reviewers and promoting the dissemination of multidisciplinary content in national and international academic circles. They may also suggest improvements related to the quality of scientific information and the journal's editorial content.
They should also identify and suggest key topics to include in the journal and invite outstanding authors to submit articles on these topics. In addition, they are responsible for identifying research with high potential for contribution, such as those presented at workshops or conferences, and inviting speakers to submit scientific articles resulting from their research to the journal when relevant.
