Computer System with Data Mining for the Management of Computing Equipment Sistema Informático con Minería de Datos para la Administración de Equipos de Cómputo

Abstract

Students in the Information Technology program at ULEAM, El Carmen extension, conduct their academic activities in laboratory LAB01, which has 35 computers. These computers have adequate technical specifications for learning, including Intel® Core™ i7-10700 processors at 2.90 GHz, 8 GB of RAM (7.65 GB usable), and a 64-bit operating system with x64 architecture. However, the intensive use of these computers by a considerable number of students, coupled with the lack of effective control during breaks or during periods when teachers review assignments, has led to an inappropriate use of technological resources. The execution of unauthorized applications has been detected, which not only affects system performance but also contributes to premature wear of components and peripherals, thus reducing the equipment's lifespan. In response to this problem, various technical solutions have been considered, such as the acquisition of specialized software or the implementation of monitoring systems, but these alternatives are economically unviable in the current context. Therefore, the development and implementation of a centralized system to monitor the use of equipment and the applications executed by students is proposed. This system will allow data to be collected and processed using data mining techniques, with the goal of identifying behavioral patterns that facilitate corrective decision-making by academic authorities, thus optimizing the use and conservation of the laboratory's technological resources
