Data Mining Applied to the Optimization of the University Degree Completion Process Minería de Datos Aplicada a la Optimización del Proceso de Titulación Universitaria

Abstract
The present work was developed in response to the need to strengthen the degree completion process, which currently faces several challenges due to student population growth and the continued reliance on manual document management. Among the main issues identified are the excessive workload placed on faculty reviewers, inconsistencies in citations and references, and a lack of originality in academic documents, partly caused by the improper use of artificial intelligence tools. The general objective was to develop an information system using clustering techniques to optimize the document management of degree projects, enabling more efficient organization, early detection of inconsistencies, and greater transparency in the academic process. The study adopted a methodological framework based on bibliographic research, complemented by interviews and surveys applied to a group of 15 students, 8 faculty members, and the degree coordinator. This information made it possible to analyze the current state of the process and identify institutional needs. For the development of the proposal, the Scrum agile methodology was applied, structuring the system into sprints that facilitated the modular construction of the software. The core component of the system integrates clustering techniques used to identify patterns, group similarities, and automatically analyze citations and references.
